Name: Named in 1841 by August Breithaupt for the type locality in the province of Coquimbo, Chile
Type Locality: Coquimbo – Chile
Visually indistinguishable from aluminocoquimbite. Coquimbite and paracoquimbite are structurally homeotypic.
Most (or all, if the species is truly coquimbite) samples carry Al, with variable Al:Fe ratio. It is now proved that Al is essential.
